“Ghosts” is a lament over the loss of life for a failed cause. The speaker feels guilty for sending them to their deaths and starts to believe he can hear them.

In the night
You can hear them calling out
Into the depths of night
Till you can feel it burn within
They’re coming in closer now

They can sense that we are alone

Unholy prayer
Do ya think they once believed?
But I can tell that’s gone
Can you conceive of death?
They’ve proven it to me

Can you hear them call in the night?

Surrounded in darkness, swaddled in fear,
eclipsed in chaos, we are all one.
It is dark my friends; it is empty.
But we are strong. We are unstoppable.
We are indivisible.

(We can feel)
Look around, can’t you see?
(Pain and fear)
All the men burning
(You killed us all)
They fade away, without a sound
All of them dead
