about

“Strife” is written about the struggle of the working and middle classes to make an impact in the political landscape. It addresses, explicitly, the struggles of the Sanders and Trump campaigns to challenge the Clinton machine in 2016. This song expresses the anger and frustrations felt by the two camps during this time. Trump’s story ends far more positively, but this song does not. Even fights worth fighting fail, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth fighting in the first place. If not you, then who? If not now, then when? This song is dedicated to Bernie, because why not, you know?

lyrics

I’ll take the back seat last until you’ve passed
I’m going too fast that you can’t even see me
Momentum prevents them from taking control
So rise up now and stand with me

You wanna take it from me?
Just come and get some
You wanna fight?
Then we’ll go, just wanna warn ya
I won’t just stand here alone
I bring an army
You better fuckin’ believe
You’re gonna back down

Yeah

Hidin’ till you’re found
You’ll be burnin’ till you hit the ground
Tearin’ you down until nothing is left of you
Right now!
Take control of it
Right now!
Then burn it down

Don’t let ’em take control
Don’t let ’em take control

You wanna take it from me?
Just come and get some
I’m gonna fight till I’m dead
Just wanna warn ya
I’ll cut ya down to size
Do ya feel me?
Just lay your sword by your side
This is your last chance

Don’t let ’em take control
Don’t let ’em take control

You wanna take it from me?
Just come and get some
I’m gonna fight till I’m dead
Just wanna warn ya
I’ll cut ya down to size
Do ya feel me?
Just lay your sword by your side
This is your last chance

You wanna take it from me?
I’ll leave you jaded
Still wanna fight?
Then we’ll go, but I wanna warn ya
I won’t just stand here alone
I bring an army
Listen to what I say
You better stand down

You motherfucker I tried
To stop the violence
In all your pride you can’t see
That this is your fault
You’re like the setting sun on the horizon
You better fuckin’ believe
That this is over now

For even if we fail, even if we fall below the tide,
let us remember that only when we are on our backs,
when we are against the wall,
that is how we learn how to get back up again.
For when we crawl, only then do we know how to rise to our feet.
